Redundancy

Redundancy can be unexpected and difficult to accept, even though it may be hard you should look at the positives that you can take from the situation. Re-evaluate your long term goals and think about new challenges, you may want to take some time out but you should always be on the look-out for a new job as you never know what opportunities might arise.

Although you may be worried about the future redundancy is not uncommon which means employers will not look upon this unfavourably as there is very little stigma attached to it. Although being made redundant was not your choice you are likely to be asked about the situation in interviews, the best way to deal with this is by remembering the positive experiences you had.

Voluntary redundancy is a more expensive way for a company to reduce the number of employees but this can be very rewarding for the employees, especially if they have been at the company for a large amount of time.

If you are thinking about taking voluntary redundancy you should think about it long and hard. It is given at the employer’s discretion so you need to consider what could happen if it was not granted (consider how you employers and colleagues would view you in the future).

Please remember that if you need any advice on redundancy and applying for a new job do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our Recruitment Consultants.
